Getting involved

How do we build a community?  Here are some ideas.  Do contact me if you would like to suggest others.

Pray

Nothing will work the way it should if we don't stay close to our Father, abide in Jesus and allow ourselves to be guided and empowered by the Spirit.  Please pray for yourself and for all of us.

Tell me

If you agree with what we are seeking to do, please let me know.  If there are five people, we can be encouraged we are not alone; if there are five hundred, we have a real voice; if we have five thousand, all kinds of other possibilities open up.  But we will never know if you don't say.  And, while you are at it, please say what is important to you, and if there are aspects of areas you are not sure about: we will never know you have questions or concerns if you don't say.

Tell others

If you think this is a conversation worth exploring, you probably know other people who might be interested.  Please pass the details on to them and take the opportunities you have to publicise this site, distribute our materials and tell others what you are doing to make it real in your life.

Join the conversation

We have a great deal to learn, so we need to make use of all the resources we have, including one another.

  • You may not think you have much understanding, but share what little you do have: every voice matters.  What seems obvious to you may be a wonderful revelation to others.
  • There are no stupid questions.  If you would like something to be explained or spelled out, so will others.
  • This might be a good opportunity to experiment with 'agile theology' (the origin of the concept might be familiar to you programmers out there).

Social action

Get involved with some form of social action.  Praying for it, giving to support it and planning to make it better are all great things to do, but at some point try to get yourself face to face with a real human being who will appreciate something you have to offer, even if (especially if?) it is only your time.  Spend time with people and listen to them: any social action which is not based on listening to people and seeking to meet the needs they care about in a sensitive and respectful way is not an authentic expression of the Gospel of Christ.

Politics

The other side of the social action coin is engagement with politics.  Helping people with problems without seeking to change the social evils which cause their probelms is simply a job-creation scheme for do-gooders.  Yes, it is complicated and messy, but Jesus never promised that building His Kingdom would be easy.

Community

You can love your neighbour as an isolated individual, but any significant activity must be undertaken in community.  Social action projects can be run by a church, by a group of churches, by a Christian social action project, and by a group which has no formal connection with the Christian faith at all: all these types of project need faithful Christians to work in them and serve the people.

Contribute

Please pray about what you might be able to contribute.  Can you offer a small donation each month to help us grow?  Do you have any time or skills which might be useful?  Do let us know - thank you.
